Evol Burritos – Tofu & Spinach Saute and Veggie Fajita

Published April 25, 2012 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

Have you tried Evol frozen burritos? They’re pretty good and come in two vegan varieties: Tofu & Spinach Saute, and Veggie Fajita. They’re 80% and 70% organic, respectively, and make a nice snack or light, quick meal. According to their website, they also make a 70% organic, vegan Veggie Curry wrap, which sounds pretty good. I’m always on the lookout for things to stock the freezer with for lazy days or when I’m absolutely famished and need immediate gratification. We ate these back in the old apartment after we had packed up the kitchen! ; )

Don’t let the names fool you, they pack a bunch of stuff in here, including 10-12g of protein and black beans in both!

Tofu & Spinach Saute: Tofu sautéed with spinach, roasted potatoesblack beans and an authentic tomato salsa–All hand rolled together in an insanely tasty whole wheat flour tortilla.

Veggie Fajita: Sautéed red & green bell peppers, black beans, brown rice and an authentic tomato & roasted corn salsa–All hand rolled together in an insanely tasty whole wheat flour tortilla.

Amy’s Tamale Verde (Vegan)

This is one of my favorites from Amy’s. It’s got all kinds of delicious goodness. I just open one end of the plastic bag and microwave it for 5 minutes, for a less fussy way to get from hungry to fed! I also like that they conveniently label all of their vegan items at the beginning of the ingredients list. I like to cut up the tamale into a bunch of small pieces and mix it into the yummy tomato-y rice. But that’s me, I’m a mixer of foods. Yummy! : )

Make sure you choose carefully. There’s an almost identical package for the one with cheese that I bought accidentally once in a hurry.

Moo Moo’s Vegetarian Cuisine – A review

Published April 27, 2011 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

Have you tried any of Moo Moo’s Vegetarian Cuisine? I saw these at my Greenwise Publix and decided to give them a shot. It’s too bad microwaved food never even remotely looks like the luscious pictures on the box, huh?

I like to have a couple of frozen meals stashed in the freezer at work, and that was my intent when I bought this. However, I was both hungry and lazy when I got home today so I decided to give this one a whirl. It was either that or a Taco Bell fresco bean burrito on my way home.

Honestly? Next time I will opt for the fresco bean burrito. This was kinda bland. I jazzed it up with some bottled chunky hot salsa. And at 4 times the price of the fast food burrito, I really expected more.

I still have the Sweet ‘N Spicy Curry Tofu one to try, so I’ll letcha know about that. I hope I like it. It’s always nice to have more convenient vegan options.

*UPDATE *

I decided to just come back and up date now that I tried both entrees. Turns out this one was just horrible! The combination of flavors was so bad that I took a bite, and almost spit it out. I was starving, however, so I just picked out the tofu pieces and ate them, and then tossed the rest.

How very disappointing! : (  I would definitely stick to my favorite Amy’s frozen meals in the future. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
