Moo Moo’s Vegetarian Cuisine – A review

Published April 27, 2011 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

Have you tried any of Moo Moo’s Vegetarian Cuisine? I saw these at my Greenwise Publix and decided to give them a shot. It’s too bad microwaved food never even remotely looks like the luscious pictures on the box, huh?

I like to have a couple of frozen meals stashed in the freezer at work, and that was my intent when I bought this. However, I was both hungry and lazy when I got home today so I decided to give this one a whirl. It was either that or a Taco Bell fresco bean burrito on my way home.

Honestly? Next time I will opt for the fresco bean burrito. This was kinda bland. I jazzed it up with some bottled chunky hot salsa. And at 4 times the price of the fast food burrito, I really expected more.

I still have the Sweet ‘N Spicy Curry Tofu one to try, so I’ll letcha know about that. I hope I like it. It’s always nice to have more convenient vegan options.

I decided to just come back and up date now that I tried both entrees. Turns out this one was just horrible! The combination of flavors was so bad that I took a bite, and almost spit it out. I was starving, however, so I just picked out the tofu pieces and ate them, and then tossed the rest.

How very disappointing! : (  I would definitely stick to my favorite Amy’s frozen meals in the future. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

boxed in & baja fresh

Published April 29, 2010 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

so, the apartment is a complete mess of boxes right now!

i had to go back to work before the movers even brought the stuff, so i haven’t put much of a dent in it yet. the kitchen is mostly unpacked, but there is still a lot of work to do.

so onto food… i do apologize for the hiatus in cooking as of late. it will be better once i’m fully settled. here is the follow up to my mom letting me know about baja fresh recently.

all of baja fresh’s beans are vegan. and so is the rice & beans side dish, if you order it without cheese. you get a choice of black or pinto beans, and it’s a whole big plate of yummy, nutritious food for $1.99. we split a large side of guacamole & chips too, $3.69 for a large or $1 something for the small.

they also have a nice bar of toppings and salsas that you can add, and create a little masterpiece. this is mine: with jalepenos, hot sauce, pico de gallo, cilantro and guacamole mixed in.

definitely budget friendly and a good source of quick, complete protein.

Vinnie’s Pizza, Brooklyn

Published March 21, 2010 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

so weekends are not going to be my most plentiful blog posting time, because i do actually have a weekend job doing open houses for swanky apartments. this weekend’s was in the upper east side. anyway, i called kassidy yesterday to meet up after i got out, and met up with her back in brooklyn. now kass has been telling me for some time that i needed to go to vinny’s pizza, and so we did.

vinnie’s pizza is a regular pizza joint that offers up some inventive vegan options as well. best of all you can get them by the slice! we stopped by the [original] bedford location yesterday and got two different slices, cut in two, to share. 1. mac attack pizza. mac’n’cheese, meat crumbles, and i think hot sauce, on a pizza. mmm. 2. bbq chick’n pizza. bbq sauce, “chicken”, onions. SO good.  i snapped a quick pic of kass, but i don’t think you can really see the pizza too well. we will return soon for vegan pizza goodness.

Foodswings! Brooklyn

Published March 19, 2010 by Vegan Derby Cat Party

i love foodswings!

it’s in brooklyn, @ 295 Grand Street. this was my third visit and every time i go it’s difficult to decide what to try. it’s an entirely vegan fast food place. they have burgers, fries, corn dogs, chicken wings, lots of flavors of milkshakes, etc. not the healthiest vegan food you can find, but it sure is tasty.

sweet southern fried bbq wing and corn dog

sausage and peppers parm

chik’n cutlet bacon ranch

homemade chili con seitan & sour cream

the bbq wing was insanely delicious. i had read rave reviews about the wings, and was not disappointed. they have several flavors, so it’s a good excuse to order them all. the texture was great.

the chili was good, though i added a lot of hot sauce. jordan liked his sausage and peppers. my sandwich was pretty dry. it only had a little bit of desiccated looking ranch. it needed some veganaise, bad. the lovely sarah ate a gyro, and said it was good too. oh, and the fries were awesome! i didn’t remember the fries being that good the last time.  the corn dog did not really have a cornbread outside, more of a cornmeal coating. i would’ve preferred the former.

overall, the chicken wing was the winner today, but i’ll be back!
